Cerebral Blood Flow

Regional Cerebral Blood Flow

1. An imaging procedure using 0-15 water to assess regional distribution of cerebral blood flow.

 

2. Indications

 

a. Stroke, tumor blood flow, arterio-venous malformations.

b. Assessment of response to controlled brain activation or pharmacologic intervention.

 

3. Procedure

 

a. Consultation with Nuclear Medicine/P.E.T. staff is required.

b. An l.V. line will be placed by P.E.T. center personnel.

c. An arterial line will be placed by P.E.T. center personnel if a quantitative study is requested.

d. Length of study is approximately 1-4 hours.
